- חֲרוּפָהf. (v. חָרַף) 1) designated, betrothed. Kidd.6a האומר חֲרוּפָתִיוכ׳ if one says to a woman, Be my ḥărufah, she is betrothed, for in Judæa they call the betrothed (אֲרוּסָה) ḥărufah.Esp. שפחה ח׳ (v. Lev. 19:20) a handmaid designated to become the wife of one selected by her master.
